Our Child Care Programs
Thea Bowman House offers a variety of programs to our diverse community. Under our roof many different languages and cultures thrive and enrich one another, providing a dynamic multicultural learning environment. The programs we offer are aimed at fostering educational and social advancement for disadvantaged populations in our community. We see the potential in every child and hope to bring out the best in each person who walks through our doors.
DAY CARE
We provide licensed all day child care for children beginning at age 18 months. Our child care programs include educational and enrichment activities, field trips, and healthy meals that meet NYS Department of Health nutritional guidelines.
UNIVERSAL PRE-K
Thea Bowman House operates a free pre-kindergarten program through the Utica City School District. Certified teachers provide a half day program that helps prepare four-year-olds for kindergarten.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE
School-age children receive after school care on school days and all-day care on school holidays and vacations. We offer a structured program for school-age children, including tutoring and homework help, physical activity, creative development and field trips. Transportation is available.
KIDS WITH PROMISE
This program provides support to children as they enter the often difficult teenage years. Children ages 10 and up are eligible. The program is free and includes tutoring, nourishing dinners, a space for recreation, field trips, and creative development. Our youth learn the value of community through different service projects and work to unlock their full potential.
DOVE PROGRAM
DOVE, Domestic Violence Ended, offers on-site support services, counseling, education and safety planning for children and their loved ones facing domestic and community violence in their lives.
